The Sustainability and Economics Division (S&E) provides in-depth and pertinent research of the air transport industry spanning economics, financial performance, policy, sustainability, energy, and technology, as well taking concrete and practical steps to develop net-zero strategies and facilitate their implementation. The Division also develops standards and best practices in these domains. Our goal is to contribute to the performance of the industry, and to help bring aviation to net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050. Data underpins all our endeavors, and our data strategy is a key lever in terms of the excellence we strive for, commensurate with the best interests of our 300 airline members.
You will report to the S&E SVP and Chief Economist and will lead the Division\\\'s data-driven initiatives and projects, being responsible for defining and executing the data-science strategy, developing and deploying innovative solutions, and managing projects across the division\\\'s and across IATA\\\'s teams of economists, data scientists and analysts in the areas of Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Business Intelligence.

What your day would be like

Develop and implement the data science vision and roadmap for S&E, aligning with the business objectives and stakeholder needs.
Oversee the design, development, and deployment of data solutions, such as cloud platforms, data analysis, machine learning, and AI applications.
Lead and mentor cross-functional project teams of data professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence. You will manage an Assistant Manager Data Science as a direct report.
Work with economists and data scientists on short and mid-term horizon passenger and other forecasts, both within S&E and across IATA.
Support data science analysis and scientific approach in environmental initiatives, including developments regarding our CO2 calculator and fuel burn reporting methodologies.
Provide scientific inputs to the IATA Net Zero strategy and modelling.
Act as a subject matter expert in Statistics, Data Science, Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Natural Language Processing.
Drive the tooling of the S&E team in Business Intelligence, including deployment of Tableau platform, enabling Next Generation AI capabilities with an aim to upskill the team\\\'s data analysis and visualization.
Work in close collaboration with the Chief Information and Data Officer\\\'s team on Data Strategy, Warehousing, Target Architecture, scalability of technical solutions, and Data Governance and Compliance.
Ensure the quality, reliability, and scalability of the data solutions, as well as the compliance with data governance and security standards.
Collaborate with internal and external partners to identify new opportunities and challenges for data and analytics and propose innovative solutions.
Promote a data-driven culture within IATA and the airline industry and communicating the value and benefits of data science and analytics to various audiences.

We would love to hear from you if

A proven academic record in quantitative research. A PhD degree will be an advantage.
10 years of experience in data science and advanced analytics.
Airline industry experience with a good understanding of its business processes, challenges, and opportunities.
A proven track record of developing data science solutions and delivering complex data projects, from ideation to production.
Experience with data warehousing, cloud solutions like AWS, GCP or Azure, data analysis, machine learning solutions and productive systems, as well as proficiency in R / Python / SQL.
Experience in applying data science algorithms for forecasting, classification, anomaly detection, NLP, and Generative AI in a business environment.
Experience with Business Intelligence data analysis and visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
