Job Description

\\n This temporary position is located in the Cooperation and Partnerships Section of the Economic Cooperation and Trade Division (ECTD) of the Economic Commission for Europe (ECE), based in Geneva, Switzerland.

The position is for an initial period of three months, with the possibility of extension. The Associate Economic Affairs Officer reports to the P5, Chief, Cooperation and Partnerships Section.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the duties of the Associate Economic Affairs Officer are:

Economic and sector analysis:
  • Collects, evaluates, interprets, analyses statistics and qualitative socio-economic information on Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) and their contribution to sustainable development, particularly in the infrastructure sector, and for countries with economies in transition.
  • Prepares briefing notes, inputs to speeches and similar material on PPPs in a form that is meaningful to non-specialists;
  • Assists in the organization and servicing of the Seventh UNECE International PPP Forum, scheduled for May 2024 and other PPP events
Intergovernmental support:
  • Prepares inputs for reports to the ECE Committee on Innovation, Competitiveness and PPPs and the Working Party on PPPs.
Technical cooperation:
  • Prepares documentation for technical cooperation programmes and projects, notably the application of the ECE PPP and Infrastructure Evaluation and Rating System (PIERS) methodology.
General:
  • Performs other related duties as required, including a variety of administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of the work unit\\\'s services;
  • Undertakes on-the-job and other training activities, both internally and externally.

Education

An advanced university degree (Master\\\'s or Doctorate degree, or equivalent) in economics or a related field is required. A first-level or advanced degree (Bachelor\\\'s, Master\\\'s or Doctorate degree, or equivalent) in any fields of studies with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree in the specified fields of studies.

A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, application of economic principles in development programmes or related area is required.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position(s) advertised, fluency in English is required; and knowledge of French is desirable.
