Org. Setting and Reporting
This post is located the Green and Inclusive Value Chain (GIVC) Section of the Division of Sustainable and Inclusive Trade (DSIT). It is supporting projects raising awareness of the green transition opportunities in developing countries and addressing deforestation in value chains.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Advisor, Trade and Environment and general guidance of the Chief, GIVC, the Associate Sustainable Development Officer will be responsible for the following duties: o Undertakes research, collects, evaluates, and analyses information and data on the green transition, trade, climate change and environment that is obtained from a variety of sources. o Maintains databases and programmes for database management and organization of information. o Prepares briefing notes, inputs to speeches and similar material on the green transition issues in a form that is meaningful to non-specialists. o Prepares first drafts of terms of reference and reviews of analytical studies on sustainable development issues and policies. o Assists in the organization and servicing of expert group meetings, seminars on trade and climate change issues. o Prepares inputs for reports to the project Steering Committee. o Follows external meetings on trade, climate and related issues and prepares summary reports and similar material. o Prepares inputs into statements, including power point presentations, by senior staff to the intergovernmental, inter-agency or expert group meetings on trade, climate and related issues. o Assists in the organization of panels, round tables on trade and climate issues and deforestation-free value chains o Compiles and analyses data and other information required for the preparation of capacity development projects in the area of trade and climate and deforestation. o Monitors, backstops and assesses the implementation of capacity building projects. o Performs other duties as required, including administrative tasks related to the assigned substantive activities. o Undertakes on the job and other training activities, both internally and externally. o Contributes to the collection and analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns and provides draft insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.

Education
A first-level university degree, in sustainable development, economics, natural resources management, law, social sciences or related field. Note: Candidates who have completed an advanced university degree in the above fields may be accepted with two years of qualifying experience.
Job - Specific Qualification
Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
Work Experience
A minimum of four years (two year with an advanced degree) of relevant experience in project or programme management, policy-oriented work in a broad range of sustainable development issues is required. Experience of carrying out research on trade and environment issues, including collection of data, analysis of quantitative data and preparing discussion around trade and/or environment policy is desirable Experience of working in the field either in a research or project management function is desirable Experience working with national counterparts either in government or private sector is desirable.
