As per June 2024 or upon agreement, we are looking for a Director International Programmes based in Zurich or Bern, Switzerland.

As Director International Programmes (IP) you are an experienced and dynamic organizational leader who understands to motivate and inspire your multi-cultural team. You have worked internationally, possess substantial thematic and managerial experience, including a thorough understanding of present development and humanitarian issues as well as funding trends. You are a committed team player and understand the importance of fostering an environment based on our values and principles to advance the Helvetas vision and strategy.

In your role, you co-manage the International Programmes Department together with the other Director IP (with focus on Africa & Latin America/Caribbean) and you are member of the Management Board.

YOUR MAIN TASKS

- Strategic Visionary: Lead the strategic development, overall steering, and management of international Helvetas operations, in coordination with the Advisory Services Department (AS).
- Institutional Influence: Represent the IP Department in the Helvetas Management Board as well as in its Board of Directors and actively contribute to the organization\\\'s strategic development.
- Stakeholder Relations: Build and maintain trustful and effective relationships with external partners, donors, and stakeholders and represent the organisation towards Swiss and internationals networks.
- Planning: Guide the development of comprehensive strategies and operational planning with regards to geographical, technical, financial, organizational, and personnel aspects of our programs in Asia and Eastern Europe, in coordination with our portfolio in Africa and Latin America as well as oversee their implementation.
- Team Leadership: Lead and inspire a senior team of Continental and Regional Coordinators for Asia and Eastern Europe, the Team Leader Acquisition, the Head of Staff IP, and the Management Officer IP as well as the IP Assistant. Support and guide the strategic and operational evolution of Helvetas Germany and ensure close collaboration with country programmes.
- Internal organisation: Ensure an efficient internal organisation of the IP department, including the relevant work processes and the continuous evolution of effective management and administrative systems, in close coordination with the Director Digital Transformation.
- Acquisition: Oversee the development and effective implementation of strategies and processes for project acquisitions, both at Head Office and for country programmes.
- Financial Oversight: Ensure annual and multi-year financial planning, financial management, controlling and reporting, in close collaboration with the Director Finance and Controlling.
- Collaborative Leadership: Initiate and contribute to interdepartmental collaboration and multi-departmental working groups. Ensure seamless coordination and effective collaboration within the IP Department at Head Office and among country programmes.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

- Experienced professional with at least 10 years working experience in a senior management position in development cooperation as well as a good understanding of humanitarian response.
- A minimum of 8 years working experience in developing countries with the development cooperation sector (preferably in Asia and Eastern Europe).
- Identification with our organisational values and strategic value proposition.
- Solid thematic understanding in a range of Helvetas working fields.
- Proven competencies in organisational development; track-record in leading organisational, strategic, and operational planning and its effective execution.
- Inspiring and motivational personality with a proven track record in leading teams and in building organisational talent. Strong team player.
- Effective networker, negotiator, and advocate with experience in building strong relationships with stakeholders & partners from civil society, government, and the private sector at different levels.
- Confident oral and written communicator with high intercultural sensitivity. Experienced facilitator and presenter.
- Practical experience with public tender processes and private donor fundraising.
- Strong competencies in participatory planning, evaluation, and results measurement.
- Dynamic, innovation-oriented personality with a good level of personal resilience, the ability to set priorities and the passion to make a difference.
- Excellent spoken and written English. Knowledge of German, French, Spanish or Portuguese are assets.
