Introduction of the Department/Centre/Programme/Service
The Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights is opening two new positions to strengthen its portfolio of short courses and online trainings in the fields of international humanitarian law, international criminal law, and related disciplines.
The Academy, a joint centre of the University of Geneva and the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID), is a leading institution for postgraduate teaching, training and research in international law applied to armed conflicts and situations of crisis.
The role:
Building on its recognized expertise in advanced master programmes, the Academy is expanding its short courses and online trainings offer. This new position will play a central role in shaping the methodology and content of these courses, ensuring both academic quality and pedagogical innovation.
The position will work under the authority of the Director of the Geneva Academy, in close cooperation with the Head of Education, the Academic Coordinator - Short Courses and Trainings, the administrative team, and the communication unit. A medium-term strategic objective is to extend the methodology of online learning developed for short courses to the current Executive Master programme.
Main Tasks
Design the pedagogical methodology for online trainings and short courses, ensuring interactivity and effective learning outcomes.
Identify, test, and manage online learning platforms and tools.
Support the development of blended and innovative learning formats (synchronous and asynchronous).
Provide advice and training to faculty and trainers on digital pedagogy and online teaching methods.
Ensure accessibility and inclusiveness of the programmes.
Contribute to monitoring and evaluation of online trainings.
As Educational Designer, the role is to lead the pedagogical development of online learning experiences from concept to final product. This includes, for example: Defining a clear vision, learning objectives, and the target audience from a pedagogical perspective.
Advising on course structure, delivery methods, and formats.
Collaborating with subject-matter experts to ensure that content is aligned with pedagogical goals.
Ensuring proper integration of materials into the chosen digital platform.
Designing tools and methods to evaluate knowledge transfer and skill development.
Strategic objective: In cooperation with the Director and the Head of Education, contribute to extending the online learning methodology to the current Executive Master programme.
Profile and Qualifications
Master's degree in Educational Sciences, Instructional Design, or a closely related field.
Demonstrated experience in the design and delivery of online and hybrid learning programmes.
Solid knowledge of e-learning platforms (e.g. Moodle, Canvas, Zoom, or similar).
Familiarity with interactive pedagogical tools (case studies, simulations, group exercises).
Competences and Skills
Strong pedagogical and instructional design skills.
Creativity and innovation in adult education and professional training.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to work in a multicultural and international team environment.
