The Laboratory of Construction Materials (LMC), together with renowned experts from
, is leading a Global Building Data Initiative (GBDI) aimed at establishing a global data initiative to inform action for reducing resource use and upfront embodied carbon of new buildings. The initiative seeks to assess the current status quo through building data analysis and benchmarking, promote consistent target setting, and inform effective decarbonization actions. By empowering decision-makers in industry and policy, the initiative will drive decarbonization action for buildings considering a whole life-cycle approach. The initiative aims for a global assessment of resource use and embodied carbon of new buildings, with special attention to involvement of crucial Global South regions. It will develop a coordinated, open, and scalable data protocol and the technical infrastructure required for global data collection and analysis.

Full Stack Developer (W/M)

Your mission :
the multi-year project, starting with the first phase of the Global Building Data Initiative (GBDI)
(2023-2024). This first phase will establish a global stakeholder network, as well as design and develop the methods and tools required ahead of global rollout in phase 2. The position is currently 1-year fixed-term contract with the explicit intention to extend the contract to enable collaboration throughout the three subsequent phases of the GBDI, aiming to Leverage Targets and Strategies for Whole Life Carbon Reduction (2024-2026) and Informing a Safe and Just Development of the Global Built Environment (2027-2028).
As a Full Stack Developer for the GBDI, you will support the software design and conduct the programming required for implementation of related key objectives of the first phase, namely to:
1) Design and develop an open data protocol for global building data collection;
2) Design and develop the technical infrastructure for global data collection and analysis;
3) Implement and validate the approach with key data partners ahead of global rollout.

Main duties and responsibilities include :
In close collaboration with the lead researcher and the research team, your mission and duties will be to :
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship features.
  • Develop, test, and deploy full-stack web applications including to create and maintain robust APIs.
  • Ensure the performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications.
  • Maintain code integrity and organization. Write well-documented, reusable, and testable code.
  • Engage with stakeholders and decision-makers to gather requirements and deliver appropriate solutions.
Your profile :
  • Suitable candidates hold, or are about to obtain, a Master\\\'s degree in Computer Science, Environmental Sciences, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a closely related discipline.
  • You possess substantial understanding of life cycle assessment research, building information modeling, and applied data analysis, complemented by a genuine interest in engaging with stakeholders and decision makers across the industry and policy spaces.
  • Professional command of English (both written and spoken) is mandatory, fluency in German is beneficial but optional.
Technical Qualifications:
  • Experience with front-end technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and frameworks (e.g., React, Vue)
  • Strong back-end development skills using languages like Python, Go, or .NET
  • Proficiency with web API protocols such as REST or GraphQL
  • Familiarity with database technology such as SQL, NoSQL, and ORM technologies
  • Experience with cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP) and CI/CD tools
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with code versioning tools such as Git.
