\\n Framed by UNDP\\\'s Strategic Plan 2022 - 2025, UNDP\\\'s work on human mobility aims to address the drivers of migration and forced displacement, enhance the resilience of people on the move and communities, and expand the benefits of human mobility on sustainable development. The programmatic and policy advisory support, led by the Recovery Solutions and Human Mobility Team (RSHM) in the Crisis Bureau (CB), focuses predominantly on the following areas: (i) mitigating the adverse drivers of irregular migration and forced development, (ii) strengthening local governance, the rule of law and access to justice; (iii) promoting socio-economic (re)integration and social cohesion; (iv) harnessing the contribution of remittances and diaspora; and (v) addressing the interaction between climate change, environment and human mobility.

The internship assignment is within the work stream of migration and displacement, where the intern will assist by, amongst other things, conducting desk research, analyzing pertinent data, supporting coordination and partnership strengthening, helping organize events and ensure knowledge sharing within the GPN and between regional hubs. The internship is unpaid and full-time, a modest stipend is provided. Interns work five days per week (35 hours).

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support RSHM team and regional hubs\\\' work on human mobility, with a special focus on forced displacement.
  • Support knowledge generation and management, including through UNDP Communities of Practice, especially the Human Mobility Community, including through engagement with Regional Hubs and Country Offices in developing case studies and documenting learning.
  • Contribute to strengthening stronger working relationships and partnership with key partners, especially those based in Geneva, including UNHCR, IOM, the Office of the Special Adviser on Solutions to Internal Displacement, ILO and UNICEF.
  • Support preparations in terms of briefing notes/talking points for UNDP\\\'s participation in key inter-agency coordination processes and write up readouts of Geneva-based meetings for internal sharing.
  • Support the planning and organization of UNDP Human Mobility events, including launching of new publications and engagement in partner external events.
  • Support the ongoing updating of donor mapping related to human mobility and engagement with priority donors; contribute to resource mobilization activities, including preparation of concept notes and proposals.
  • Assist the Recovery Solutions and Human Mobility team with any other miscellaneous tasks as needed.

Required Skills and Experience

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher, in migration/forced displacement studies, international relations, economics, human rights, development or other related fields);
  • Have graduated with a university degree (as described above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.
  • Have demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views;
  • Preferably some relevant experience in human mobility (migration/forced displacement) and development, as well as in gender equality and women\\\'s empowerment;
  • Excellent analytical skills are required and experience in research;
  • Experience in drafting and editing documents;
  • Be literate in social media.
