Internship, Cellular Assay Development (6 Months)

Basel, BS, CH, Switzerland

Job Description

Internship, Cellular Assay Development - 6-months

Location: Basel, Switzerland

Monte Rosa Therapeutics is seeking a passionate candidate for an internship in the Immunology and Inflammation Biology group to help us identify molecular glue degraders to eliminate disease causing proteins through targeted protein degradation - a novel and exciting field for targeting proteins that were previously considered un-druggable.

The candidate will contribute to enhancing protein degradation in primary human immune cells to guide discovery and prioritization of novel targets. This internship will provide the opportunity to learn about immune cell function, E3 ligase biology, and develop valuable skills including primary cell culture, cell line generation, cell-based assay development, good record keeping, and cross-functional interactions. You will be joining a diverse, thoughtful, fun, and collaborative environment that emphasizes teamwork, fosters growth, and people first!

Key responsibilities:

Cell culture: maintain a variety of immune cell lines and primary cells in culture;

Establish protein overexpression and detection in cell lines;

Transfer techniques and validation to primary immune cells;

Assay optimization: identification and fine-tuning of critical assay parameters such as optimal gene expression levels, seeding density, timeframe or co-treatments;

Design and carry out experiments to address key scientific questions;

Collaborate with different functions within the company, attend and present data at team and company meetings.

Qualifications:

Currently in a master's degree program in Cell Biology, Cellular Immunology, or a life science field.

Proficiency in English (written and spoken).

Strong desire to learn the most advanced approaches in drug discovery and targeted protein degradation.
Previous experience with mammalian cell culture and working in a sterile environment (ideally BSL2 standards) is desired. Experience in molecular biology / biochemical techniques (e.g. western blot, DNA extraction, PCR, CRISPR/Cas9) is a plus.

Experience working with T or B cells in conjunction with flow cytometry/FACS is highly desirable.

Monte Rosa Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing highly selective molecular glue degrader (MGD) medicines for patients living with serious diseases in the areas of oncology, autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, and more. MGDs are small molecule protein degraders that have the potential to treat many diseases that other modalities, including other degraders, cannot. Monte Rosa's QuEEN(TM) (Quantitative and Engineered Elimination of Neosubstrates) discovery engine combines AI-guided chemistry, diverse chemical libraries, structural biology, and proteomics to rationally design MGDs with unprecedented selectivity. Monte Rosa has developed the industry's leading pipeline of MGDs, which spans autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, oncology, and beyond. Monte Rosa has a global license agreement with Novartis to advance VAV1-directed molecular glue degraders and a strategic collaboration with Roche to discover and develop MGDs against targets in cancer and neurological diseases previously
