The Position
To support our Viral Technologies lab within the Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development (pRED) Center in Basel, we are offering a highly motivated intern the opportunity to support project work in the field of recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV) gene therapy for a period of 9 months.
The Opportunity
In this role, you will be supervised by a PhD student in the Viral Technologies team on an innovative early research project focusing on translating AAV biology to improve rAAV manufacturing. As part of this process, you will work in a Biosafety Level (BSL) 2 environment producing, characterizing and testing generated viral vectors. Additionally, we offer you the opportunity to learn and collaborate with various departments, such as technical development and manufacturing.
Conducting assays and maintaining cell lines in BSL2 environments.
Characterization of rAAV vectors using dPCR, ELISA and WES.
Performing small scale rAAV production for screening purposes.
Optimization of a small scale screening platform.
Identification and evaluation of novel helper systems for rAAV production.
Who You areBachelor's or Master's degree in Life Science, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Virology, or a related field. You have ongoing studies or graduated within 12 months prior to the start date.
Experience in working with viral vectors and BSL2 cell culture.
Knowledge of dPCR and rAAV production are a plus.
Previous experience with molecular cloning is an advantage.
Good verbal and written English skills, such as good communication and organizational skills.
Ability to approach challenges with creativity and team spirit.
High motivation and self-initiative to learn.
