Project description (Master's thesis/Internship: 6 months)
As an intern at Melexis, you will design and prototype a multi-axis torquemeter to measure the full range of forces and torques acting on a robotic joint.
More specifically, you will:

• Contribute to innovative mechanical and sensor integration design of the transducer, supporting the design choices with a thorough literature review, simulation, and analysis.
• Implement a complete prototype for the torquemeter, including mechanical structure design, PCB layout, and data acquisition.
• Validate the prototype by conducting testing to characterize its performance, including sensitivity, crosstalk, and noise.

Expected results

• A prototype of a 6-DoF torquemeter
• A detailed report documenting design simulation, implementation, and performance validation

Requirement

• Interest in sensor technology and mechatronics for robotics
• Basic experience with mechanical simulation (e.g. COMSOL structural mechanics module)
• Basic knowledge of mechanical design principles and CAD software (e.g., Fusion 360, Onshape)
• Basic knowledge of PCB design is a plus
• Curious, with a can-do spirit
