Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, inter-governmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.
?The Migrant Protection Unit (MPX) sits within the Border Management and Return and Readmission Division (BMRR) of the Department of Mobility Pathways and Inclusion (DMPI) and is responsible for all protection interventions in non-emergency settings. MPX interventions aim to address protection risks by preventing or responding to actual or potential violations of rights defined by relevant international instruments including migration, human rights, refugee, and international humanitarian law. MPX works to ensure the upholding, or restoration of the rights of individuals who are vulnerable to or at risk of violence, abuse, exploitation, discrimination, neglect, and deliberate deprivation. MPX also supports other IOM divisions and departments in protection mainstreaming.
MPX is the thematic home for inter alia, return and reintegration, combating human trafficking, child protection, addressing gender-based violence (GBV); addressing xenophobia and racism; disability inclusion; as well as housing, land and property. In partnership with IOM divisions and departments and external stakeholders, MPX responds to protection needs in non-humanitarian settings, through the following six programmatic pillars: data, research and learning; training and capacity development; advocacy and communications; convening and dialogue; direct assistance; and thematic guidance.
Context:
Under the overall supervision of the Head of MPX and the direct supervision of the Knowledge Management Support Officer (Protection), the Online Volunteer will provide support to the knowledge management activities, including a focus on communication, of the Migrant Protection Platform, the IOM's digital space for knowledge sharing and dialogue on migrant protection, funded by the Cooperation on Migration and Partnerships to Achieve Sustainable Solutions (COMPASS) Initiative. The Online Volunteer will work in close coordination with relevant divisions and units at Headquarters, IOM's Online Communication Unit and relevant IOM's Regional Offices and Country Offices.

Task description:
We are looking for one (1) online volunteer to support the work on IOM's Migrant Protection Platform. The role will involve managing and disseminating protection-related knowledge materials (including in the thematic areas of Counter-Trafficking, Child Protection, Addressing Gender-Based Violence and Return and Reintegration) in multiple languages; drafting advocacy and communication products such as newsletters, articles, and creating engaging content for social media, particularly LinkedIn.
The volunteer may also assist with the organization of events like public webinars and contribute to the development of knowledge products.
Requirements:
Knowledge of migrant protection is an asset, along with experience in managing social media accounts or online communities, coordinating events and providing logistical support, and writing articles, blogs, and social media materials (e.g., using Canva, transforming reports into digestible visual content, managing social media campaigns, etc.) Previous exposure to international contexts is also considered an asset.
Strong skills include an in-depth understanding of diversity, inclusion, and gender matters; excellent verbal and written communication; creative storytelling and knowledge of social media platforms (particularly LinkedIn); and proficiency in design software such as Canva. The role also requires being able to work independently and strong organizational and time management skills.
Work Hours: 16 - 20 hours per week
