About This Role
At Biogen, as a Chemical and Pharmaceutical Technologist, you will play a key role in supporting the full manufacturing process of our medicines, from the initial raw materials and thawing process up to the concentration and filling. Active ingredients are produced on a large scale using biotechnological methods, then further transferred to our partners where they get transformed into finished, packaged dosage forms.
In this role, you will oversee all production areas, operating large-scale facilities and managing them through advanced process control systems. Beyond executing manufacturing processes, you will also plan, prepare, and ensure strict adherence to safety, quality, and environmental protection standards. With your technical expertise, you will serve as a point of contact for other departments, such as the workshop, quality control, and laboratory development.
The apprenticeship
The apprenticeship at Biogen is offered in partnership with our training provider, Aprentas and lasts three years. You will receive training as a Chemical and Pharmaceutical Technologist with a focus on chemistry, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical technology. The program includes both theoretical classes at Aprentas in Muttenz and inter-company courses, covering all three areas. The first two years of your apprenticeship will primarily take place at Aprentas, where you will learn to operate systems in chemical, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical technology. During various phases, mainly during the third year, you will gain hands-on experience at Biogen's production facilities, where you will receive on-the-job training and learn different processes from experienced colleagues. In addition to classroom learning, Aprentas in Muttenz offers regular inter-company courses, such as laboratory sessions and knowledge transfer in biotechnology and pharmacy. Throughout the training, we emphasize not only professional development but also the growth of methodological, personal, and social skills, ensuring you are fully prepared for the workforce.
At the end of the three-year training program, you will undergo a qualification process. Upon successful completion, you will receive your certificate of competence, fully preparing you to begin your career in the pharmaceutical production field.
