The ASTRAN Lab (Advanced Stimulus-based Translational Neuroimaging Laboratory) is affiliated with the Department of Neurosurgery and the Clinical Neuroscience Center of University Hospital Zurich. Our work focuses on the hemodynamic assessment of patients with cerebrovascular diseases and brain tumors through advanced neuroimaging during respiratory challenges. By means of prospective end-tidal gas targeting during fMRI BOLD sequence acquisition, we are able to estimate hypercapnic cerebrovascular reactivity and hypoxic/hyperoxic tissue perfusion parameters.
Your responsibilities

As a PhD student, you will take a leading role in patient identification and inclusion, conducting BOLD-CVR imaging, and performing detailed imaging data analysis and interpretation. Depending on your specific PhD project, you will also drive project development, oversee data analysis, and take the lead in publishing key findings as the first author. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to cutting-edge research while developing your expertise and scientific profile.)

We are looking for a highly motivated and dedicated PhD student with a strong passion for neuroscience, neurosurgery, and advanced imaging techniques. The ideal candidate will excel in patient interaction, data analysis (Pyton, Matlab, R), and scientific communication. You should be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. In this role, you will take charge of patient recruitment, perform BOLD-CVR imaging, and conduct comprehensive imaging data analysis. You will also play an active role in project development and contribute to advancing innovative research.
