The research performed at EML aims at understanding the mechanistic underpinnings of these processes and at providing science-based solutions to environmental challenges including aquifer contamination, nuclear waste disposal, and greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, constraining the role of reduction mechanism on uranium isotope fractionation is a long-term goal of the laboratory.
Main duties and responsibilities
Investigate the isotopic fractionation of uranium during its abiotic reduction by ferrous iron Carry out experiments with seawater and variable organic carbon Collaborate with a senior microscopist to investigate reduction processes at the nanoscale Perform laboratory experiments Participate in general laboratory tasks Perform first-class scientific research Write publications Attend and present at international conferences.
