General Description
The Poolside Teaching Assistant reports to the Primary School Principal and the PE Team Lead. In this role, the successful candidate will support the delivery of the Primary School swimming programme by working actively at poolside alongside the swimming teachers. The Poolside Teaching Assistant supports planned swimming activities, assists with assessment and lesson preparation and helps ensure a safe, well-organised and engaging learning environment for all students. This role requires confidence working with children, the ability to use initiative and a proactive approach to supporting student learning and wellbeing. Experience working with children is essential; a background in Physical Education or sport and German language skills are assets. Lifeguard certification is desirable and applicants must be willing to work towards certification if not already qualified.
The hours for this position are currently set to (they are subject to change):
Tuesdays: 11:15-13:45
Wednesday: 11:15-15:15
Friday: 11:15-15:15
Main responsibilities

• Actively support swimming teachers at poolside during lessons, ensuring students are engaged, safe, and appropriately challenged.
• Assist with planning and preparation of swimming activities, including setting up equipment and reviewing lesson resources.
• Support student learning by observing performance, helping with basic assessment tasks, and providing constructive feedback under teacher guidance.
• Promote a positive and inclusive environment, encouraging participation and confidence for all students.
• Maintain high safety standards at all times, following pool protocols and supporting lifeguard duties as required.
• Collaborate with the PE Team and Primary School staff to ensure smooth coordination across the swimming programme.
• Contribute to reflection and review processes, offering insights to enhance future lessons and student engagement.
• Monitoring for safe and respectful behaviour, keeping noise low with awareness of being in a public space.
