Postdoc Position (Doktoratsassistenz, 75%, 5-year fixed term) from 1. January 2024
in the Division of Sociology, Social Policy and Social Work, University of Fribourg, Switzerland
We are offering an attractive position with the opportunity for academic qualification (Habilitation) in our interdisciplinary division of sociology, social policy and social work. We are an international team with qualitative, quantitative, comparative and mixed-methods expertise researching a broad array of social issues in global perspective and drawing on sociological, social policy and social work approaches.
The position entails:
- Conducting independent research and collaborating in research activities at the Department
- Contributing to the Department's BA and MA degree programmes in Sociology, Social Policy and Social Work with the teaching of 1-2 courses per academic year, including co-teaching of qualitative and comparative methods courses
- Supervision of student projects on BA and MA level
- Contributing to the Department's peer-reviewed open access journal social policy.ch as member of the editorial team
Requirements:
- Doctorate/PhD in social policy, sociology, or another social science
- Thematic fit of research interests with the research orientations at the Department, particularly on social policy themes related to family, gender, care, religion, and social inequality in national and international perspectives
- Extensive experience in conducting empirical research
- Excellent qualitative and comparative methodological skills; openness to quantitative methods; experience of mixed-methods approaches desirable
- High competence to work independently as well as to collaborate in a team
- Proficiency in German and in English (courses are taught in German and in English); French language skills desirable
The salary is set according to the remuneration guidelines of the Canton Fribourg. The position can be extended with an additional teaching contract.
