The Center for Microscopy and Image Analysis at the University of Zurich offers researchers a wide range of light and electron microscopy methods. We support and train users in all aspects of microscopy, maintain and operate complex microscope systems, develop and implement new imaging methods, and collaborate closely with research groups. In addition, we offer hands-on training and lectures for students and researchers.
Your responsibilities

Responsible for cryo-transmission and plasma focused ion beam milling/scanning electron microscopes, including optimization, testing and coordination with service engineers.
Training and supporting users in single particle analysis cryoEM as well as cryo correlative light-electron microscopy, covering all steps from sample preparation, data acquisition and analysis.
Training users in advanced light microscopy techniques, including integration into correlative workflows.
Defining and implementing optimal workflow strategies in collaboration with users.
Developing novel imaging workflows
Teaching in lectures and courses
Participation in research projects and collaborations with research groups
Your profile
----------------
A PhD degree and proven experience in structural biology
Expertise in cryo-electron microscopy applications (structure determination by single particle analysis and/or subtomogram averaging) is an advantage
Additional experience in negative staining, and sample preparation by focused ion beam/scanning electron microscopy as well as light microscopy is considered a plus
Strong motivation to support and train users with a problem-solving mindset accompanied by excellent communication skills
Proactivity for learning and assimilating new concepts, tools, and techniques
Good command of both written and spoken English, preferably also German.
We offer the opportunity to work in a collaborative team within an intercultural scientific environment, using innovative microscopy and imaging techniques and gaining experience with cutting-edge technologies.
The position is full-time (100%) and initially limited to two years, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of four years. Salary and employment conditions follow cantonal regulations.
