We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team in exploring the intersection of matroid theory and post-quantum cryptography. This position is part of a larger effort to develop novel cryptographic constructions based on combinatorial and algebraic structures beyond lattices.
The successful candidate will investigate how matroids-and related combinatorial structures-can be used to design cryptographic primitives that are secure against quantum adversaries.
The Position Involves:
Conducting independent and collaborative research in matroid theory and its applications to post-quantum cryptography, including publications in leading journals and conferences
Developing new theoretical frameworks and exploring connections to cryptographic hardness assumptions
Collaborating with PhD students and contributing to joint research projects
Participating in group meetings, seminars, and interdisciplinary discussions
Providing light teaching support, such as mentoring, occasional guest lectures, or assisting with graduate-level courses
Your profile
----------------
PhD in mathematics or theoretical computer science
Strong background in matroid theory, algebraic combinatorics, and discrete mathematics
Interest or experience in cryptography, especially post-quantum cryptographic models
Proven research ability and a strong publication record (relative to career stage)
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
The applicant will join the research group on coding theory and cryptography in the Institute of Computer Science (ICS-HSG) at the University of St.Gallen. The ICS-HSG is a research institute specialized in computer science and dedicated to scientific excellence to foster economic growth and societal well-being. Our fields of expertise range from artificial intelligence, cyber security, data science, communication systems, human-computer interaction, programming languages, and software engineering.
What We Offer:
A dynamic and collaborative research environment
Funding for travel to conferences and research visits
Opportunities to supervise students and co-author papers
