Your responsibilities

Crop Wild Relatives (CWR) are considered the \\xe2\\x80\\x9ccousin\\\'s\\xe2\\x80\\x9d of domesticated crop and represent a critical genepool for a more sustainable agriculture. CWR are potential source of resilient and diversified crops. The project Horizon COUSIN aims at identifying CWR across Europe and sets the priorities towards their conservation. There is a critical need for monitoring and developing locally-adapted solution for CWR conservation and model-driven strategies can effectively feed both for in situ and ex situ efforts.

A postdoctoral research position is open between the Spatial Ecology group (ECOSPAT) of Antoine Guisan at University of Lausanne and the Genetic Resources section of the Federal Office for Agriculture. This position is part of a European project (COUSIN) addressing conservation, management and utilization of CWR in Europe. The overarching goal of this project is to identify and characterize the extent of CWR diversity in Europe. In particular, the candidate will gather data on distribution, phylogeny and functional diversity of CWR across Europe, model de potential distribution of the candidate taxa using species distribution models (SDMs), and conduct gap analysis on the state of CWR contribution that will help model-driven in situ and ex situ conservation planning. These results will allow setting conservation priorities and measures adapted to the current CWR conservation challenges.

Salary and benefits are internationally highly competitive. The candidate will be supervised by Blaise Petitpierre, Sylvain Aubry, Olivier Broennimann and Antoine Guisan, and will collaborate and interact with a broader international network of researchers and stakeholders across Europe.
