Position Summary
Milton Fire and Rescue Services is currently accepting applications for Part-time Firefighter positions. This position is responsible for responding to emergency incidents and performing firefighting duties as assigned. Please note, candidates must be available to work variable hours on an on-call basis.
Major Job ResponsibilitiesBe available to respond to emergency incidents of varying origins and magnitude to provide assistance in the saving, protection, and preservation of lives, property, and the environment
Perform necessary fire ground operations including confining, controlling, and extinguishing fires; search, rescue, and evacuation of individuals; ventilation; protecting exposures; salvage and overhaul of a structure and its contexts so that lives are protected and property loss is minimized
Perform a variety of rescue-related duties to protect the public and reduce further injuries related to motor vehicle accidents, high-level rescue, confined space, ice and water rescue, and industrial accidents, etc.
Provide emergency medical care including patient assessments, obtaining vital signs, first-aid, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), defibrillation, preparing patient for transport, and assisting paramedics as required
Attend weekly station training and other training as required
Maintain fire station and firefighting equipment
Attend, participate in, and deliver fire prevention and public education duties at various community functions and events
Drive and operate fire apparatus and support vehicles within the parameters of the Highway Traffic Act
Comply with all health and safety practices as it relates to the work, standard operating guidelines. and the Occupational Health & Safety Act
Perform other duties as assigned in accordance with department objectives
Education & Experience
EducationSecondary School diploma or academic equivalent is required
ExperiencePrevious firefighting experience is considered an asset
Certifications and DesignationsSuccessful candidates must possess a valid Ontario Driver's License Class "G" with a clean driving record that demonstrates responsible and safe driving habits. A recent driver abstract dated within 30 days will be required for those selected for an interview. Candidates with four (4) or more active demerit points on their driving record will not be considered for this position.
CPR/First Aid/Defibrillation or Emergency Medical Responder certification is considered an asset
Additional Job SkillsExcellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively under stressful situations
Applicants must be capable of handling intense and sustained physical activity
General InformationApplicants must be a resident of Milton to apply and work for Milton Fire & Rescue Services
In accordance with the Corporate Criminal Record Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to submit a Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening upon employment
Successful candidates must undergo a medical examination as a condition of employment
Note: Within one year of hire, recruits must obtain the following licenses/certificates at their own expense.
DZ license is considered an asset; successful candidates must be willing to obtain a DZ license within one (1) year from the date of hire at the candidate's expense

Acrophobia Assessment
National Firefighting Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 Firefighter Qualifications must also be obtained within the same timeframe
