Job Description

JOB PURPOSE



To provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to students, staff, and visitors in accordance with Swiss nursing standards, Croix-Rouge protocols, and NMC guidance (if applicable).

The School Nurse promotes the physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing of all students and ensures that safeguarding and child protection principles are embedded in all aspects of practice.

This role organisationally relates to: the School Director, Deputy School Directors, COO/CFO, house staff, teaching staff, sports and expeditions departments.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIESProfessional Conduct



Adhere to Swiss nursing regulations, the NMC Code of Professional Conduct (if applicable), and relevant advisory papers. Deliver evidence-based nursing care in accordance with Swiss standards and Croix-Rouge protocols. Maintain confidentiality at all times, following Swiss data protection (DSG/FADP) and child protection legislation. Uphold and actively promote the school's Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy, reporting any concerns immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). Participate in ongoing professional development and safeguarding training.

Nursing Care



Provide high-standard nursing services to students, staff, and visitors. Organise and run nurse clinics during duty hours. Assess injuries, illnesses, and health conditions, create care plans, and refer to secondary care when appropriate. Administer medications in accordance with prescriptions, care plans, and Swiss legal requirements. Develop and maintain individual care plans in collaboration with house staff, wellbeing coordinators, and parents. Apply Gillick competence when assessing students' capacity to consent to treatment. Communicate with parents in cases of significant injury, illness, or emergencies while maintaining medical confidentiality. Deliver first aid and emergency care according to Croix-Rouge standards; maintain and restock first aid kits. Provide confidential counselling and health advice when appropriate. Administer vaccinations and follow infectious disease control procedures in compliance with FOPH (Federal Office of Public Health) guidelines. Safely manage and store medical supplies, clinical waste, and medications according to Swiss regulations. Record all appointments and interventions accurately in the real-time database. Supervise care of unwell students during the night in the health centre, in houses and coordinate with house staff. Remain vigilant to signs of abuse or neglect, record concerns accurately, and report them immediately to the DSL.

Health Education and Promotion



Promote health education across the school following Croix-Rouge and Swiss health promotion standards. Support wellbeing and pastoral initiatives in collaboration with teaching and pastoral teams. Keep up to date with current health promotion and safeguarding programmes. Participate in Atelier Clinicor similar forums to discuss relevant health and wellbeing topics.

Administration



Maintain accurate, confidential medical records. Record all medication dispensing according to protocol. Manage general Health Centre administrative duties and ensure efficient daily operations. Complete medico-legal accident and incident reports for insurance claims. Assist with ordering, accounting, and distribution of medical supplies. Maintain health budgets and expenditure records.

Health & Safety



Maintain awareness of health and safety issues affecting staff, students, and the school environment, following Swiss workplace safety standards. Contribute to health-related risk assessments for trips, events, and activities. Ensure all health and safety protocols are followed within the Health Centre.

Liaison and Collaboration



Work closely with the Health Centre team, house staff, pastoral care, academic staff, and parents. Liaise with external medical professionals, including doctors, hospitals, and therapists, for treatment coordination and follow-up. Maintain confidentiality in all communications and documentation. Participate in multidisciplinary meetings concerning student welfare and safeguarding.

Safeguarding and Child Protection



Promote a culture of vigilance and care, ensuring safeguarding is central to all nursing and pastoral practices. Attend regular safeguarding and child protection training as required. Maintain professional boundaries and appropriate relationships with students. Act promptly and appropriately if concerned about a student's welfare, ensuring all concerns are accurately recorded and reported. Support the DSL in promoting safeguarding awareness across the school community.

Hours of Work



Term-time only. Includes night duty, on-call, weekends, and unsocial hours. Expected to work the week before term starts to prepare the Health Centre. Opportunity to support Aiglon's Summer Camp.

OTHER TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES



Understand and implement all school policies and procedures, particular those relating to safeguarding children and young people. Undertake any other task which may be reasonably requested by the Associate Director of Nursing and the Associate Director of Health Care Services to assist in the smooth running of the team. Understand the School's Guiding Principles and uphold the ethos of the School at all times.
