Are you passionate about building scalable systems that empower teams and drive innovation? Join our Product Core Technology team as a Backend Software Engineer, where you'll help architect, build and maintain GraphQL APIs, Kafka-based, distributed event-driven systems that power our global operations. You'll play a key role in ensuring that Product Information flows efficiently across platforms, including our website, mobile app, internal applications and external partners. You will directly contribute in turning Product Data into a strategic competitive advantage, accelerating the speed of On's innovation and go-to-market. Your work will enable R&D, product creators and managers, copy and translators, studio and marketing teams to access, manage, and distribute product data with ease. If you thrive on solving complex technical challenges, designing high-performance systems, and collaborating across teams, this role is for you!

Your Mission

In Your First Month:


Get to know On's product data ecosystem and infrastructure Pair up with senior engineers to learn the tools and services used by the team Contribute to code reviews, ensuring high-quality, secure, and well-tested code

After Three Months:


Implement new features and services to enhance our data infrastructure Work on our Kafka-based event streaming system for real-time data distribution Collaborate with product and other engineering teams to deliver business value

After Six Months and Beyond:


Take ownership of small to medium-sized projects Support improvements to system reliability and performance Continue learning and contributing to team best practices and engineering quality

Your Responsibilities


Develop & maintain robust, scalable backend systems using TypeScript and Node.js (experience with Ruby is a plus) Work with GraphQL APIs and event-driven systems Collaborate with engineers and product stakeholders to solve problems Contribute to code reviews and improve code quality across the team Help document your work and share knowledge within the team

Experienced in backend development, particularly with Node.js and TypeScript Experience in building GraphQL APIs, or interest to learn Understanding of SQL or NoSQL database systems Great communicator who can explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders A self-starter who is willing to step up and go out of the comfort zone Excited to experiment, explore new technologies, and help shape a growing area of our business Comfortable with complexity, ambiguity, and can pivot based on new information

Bonus Points If You Have:


Hands-on experience with AWS or GCP Previous experience with AI and ML or strong personal interest Experience with Docker and Kubernetes A track record of building internal tools that improve workflows A passion for sports

Product Core Technology is a newly established cluster within On's Technology organization, dedicated to shaping the digital foundation of our physical products, the beating heart of the company. We collaborate with a wide range of key stakeholders across On, acting as both domain experts and enablers. Our mission is to architect and enhance On's core product data infrastructure, empowering teams to drive efficient, sustainable, and forward-thinking innovation. We're a small but highly motivated team of engineers with big ambitions and a rapidly expanding roadmap. It's an exciting time to join us on this journey
