At Onward Medical, we share a common vision: empowering people with spinal cord injury to enjoy life in the ways that matter to them. To make this vision a reality, we are developing medical devices for targeted spinal cord stimulation using non-invasive and implantable technologies combined with brain-computer interfaces (BCIs).
Developing these medical devices begins with defining clear, traceable requirements based on user needs, regulatory expectations, and risk management considerations. These requirements form the foundation for our design process, leading to detailed design outputs such as specifications, drawings, and procedures necessary for manufacturing and testing. Finally, comprehensive verification and validation activities ensure that every aspect of the design fulfills the original requirements - confirming safety, reliability and performance.
During your internship, you will have the opportunity to contribute to various aspects of the system lifecycle of our spinal stimulation platforms and BCI system, including:
Development and design of the system architectures and components
Conceptualization, design and development of verification test systems
Documentation and requirement/verification management
As part of the System Engineering team, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of how system components work and integrate with each other, and you will acquire hands-on experience across the full development lifecycle of medical devices, from early-stage requirements to final verification and release.
The system engineering team is a cross-functional, interdisciplinary and motivated group of 6 engineers, typically joined by one to two interns. Are you interested in joining us to help advance spinal stimulation technology?
