The Linguistic Research Infrastructure (LiRI) at the University of Zurich is seeking a Data Steward to help develop the next generation of our data processing pipelines and to streamline our data management practices. As a technology Platform, we provide research facilities and services to researchers from diverse fields in the language sciences, who use wide variety of data, methods, and analyses. Consequently, we work with a variety of data types, ranging from text, audio, and video to physiological and neuroimaging data.
As a Data Steward with a development focus, the successful applicant will build and maintain robust data-processing pipelines for these diverse data types. An initial focus will be linked with the LiRI laboratory to develop a pipeline for EEG data processing. This will then expand to working with data coming from our new lab for visual language research. This will require working with/supporting research groups, understanding their needs and creating user-friendly, well-documented and adaptable solutions for data management and processing.
Your responsibilities

Scientific programming (data transformation, reproducibility, visualization, analysis)
Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines and workflows
Implement reproducible workflows using best-practice tooling
Collaborate with researchers and users to understand requirements and provide advice
Produce documentation and training materials for researchers
Contribute to teaching and training
Participate in the University's Data Stewards Network and Research Software Engineer community

Qualifications, experience and knowledge
A relevant qualification with scientific programming experience (essential)
Python Programming and familiarity with commonly used data packages (Numpy, Pandas, Polars, etc.) (essential)
Familiarity with standard software engineering practices (e.g., test driven development) (essential)
Technical writing: able to write clear and concise documentation and training materials (essential)
Familiarity with discipline-specific data organization standards (like BIDS) and tools (MNE-python) (desirable)
Knowledge of Statistics (desirable)
Experience with other programming language: R, Matlab (desirable)
Prior experience working in a university or other research organisation (desirable)
Familiarity with the FAIR principles for research data management (desirable)
