Mission

The interfacultary Institute of Bioengineering (IBI) of the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne EPFL is at the crossroad of life sciences and engineering, being situated in both the School of Life Sciences SV and the School of Engineering STI. Its mission is to perform world-class quantitative, systems- and design-oriented research in and for the life sciences, and to contribute to the rich educational environment.

As institute manager ("adjoint de l'institut") of IBI, you coordinate a number of academic and community activities with the institute and beyond as listed below, in close collaboration with the director and co-director of the institute, and with the dean's offices of the two Schools.

Main duties and responsibilities

Executive assistance to the Institute Directors Faculty hires (Search Committee Secretary role) Institute budgets Seminar management (Institute's weekly flagship series, one-off seminars, monthly PhD student mini-symposia) Meetings & events: weekly IBI Office meetings; monthly IBI faculty meetings; annual faculty retreats; annual BioE Day; one-off research symposia Reports (e.g. in context of institutional audits) and presentations Website: content maintenance; development Ancillaries, such as: mailing list and Memento moderation; vetting of P.I. expense claims Contribute to fund raising and external communication, in collaboration with the respective teams of the SV and STI dean's offices

Profile

Science/engineering background, ideally holder of a PhD degree Independent and self-motivated Ability to work under multiple deadlines Good inter-personal and communication skills Good command of English (spoken and written forms); French a highly desirable plus
