Job Description

PharmaBiome AG is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lab Manager to oversee lab operations, drive experimental excellence, and manage resources for our R&D projects in Schlieren, Zurich, Switzerland. We are looking for a solution-oriented team player who can drive and contribute to PharmaBiome's scientific goals and vision.


What you'll do




Oversee Lab Operations & Safety: Manage daily lab activities, optimize workflows, maintain equipment, oversee inventory, and enforce strict safety and hygiene standards. Drive Experimental Excellence: Independently execute key experiments (e.g., microbial cultivations, fecal enrichments, bacterial isolations) and provide critical technical support for R&D projects, including experimental setup, sample analysis (DNA extraction, PCR, flow cytometry, HPLC, sequencing), and data interpretation. Manage Biobank & Quality Control: Maintain our biobank of single strains and consortia, implement rigorous quality control, and develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) in collaboration with Quality Assurance. Manage Resources & Budget: Oversee laboratory expenses, manage the budget, and negotiate vendor contracts. Contribute to R&D & Documentation: Actively assist with experimental design, strategic planning, detailed technical documentation, and contribute to research reports and scientific manuscripts.

What You'll Bring




Educational Background: BSc in microbiology, biotechnology, biology, biochemistry, or a related scientific field. Experience: Proven experience in lab management or a senior scientist role, ideally within biopharma. Hands-on Wet Lab Expertise: Strong practical skills in anaerobic bacteria cultivation (BSL2), microbial metabolomics (HPLC, GC-MS), molecular methods (PCR, qPCR), and bioreactor operation. Key Skills: Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail, a collaborative team player, experience with LIMS/ELNs (Benchling preferred), a strong understanding of quality control and SOP development, and excellent communication skills.
