Job Description

PharmaBiome AG is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Associate to join our interdisciplinary R&D team in Schlieren, Zurich, Switzerland. You will be a crucial contributor to executing and meticulously recording laboratory activities focused on developing and producing our multi-strain bacterial consortia. We are looking for a solution-oriented team player who can drive and contribute to PharmaBiome's scientific goals and vision.


What you'll do




Execute Key Experiments: Independently conduct key laboratory experiments with pure cultures, multi-strain bacterial co-cultures, and complex fecal communities, including ex vivo fecal cultivations and bioreactor operations (batch, fed-batch, continuous modes). Provide essential technical support for research projects, covering media preparation, experimental setup, sample analysis (DNA extraction, PCR, flow cytometry, HPLC, Nanopore sequencing), bacterial isolations, and strain phenotyping. Ensure Rigor & Document: Implement rigorous quality control, diligently follow SOPs, accurately enter data into the centralized data warehouse, and maintain detailed technical documentation in ELNs.
Contribute to Lab Operations: Collaborate within the R&D team and contribute to general laboratory maintenance.


What you'll bring




Educational Background: BSc in microbiology, biotechnology, biology, biochemistry, or a related scientific field. Experience: Over 2 years of proven experimental work experience in microbiome science (industry or academic). Hands-on Wet Lab Expertise: Solid practical skills in anaerobic bacteria cultivation (BSL2), microbial metabolomics (HPLC, GC-MS), molecular methods (PCR, qPCR), and bioreactor operation for multi-strain bacterial co-cultures. Key Skills: Proactive problem-solver, collaborative team player, experience with LIMS/ELNs (Benchling preferred), and fluent in English.
