Teacher of Science / Biology

The British School of Geneva is seeking to recruit an outstanding Biology and Science teacher for a Fixed Term Contract from 25th August 2023-31st December 2023. Founded in 2005, The British School of Geneva offers the full English National Curriculum from EYFS through to A Levels to students of all nationalities and educational backgrounds.

Biology and General Science Teacher : Provision of scheduled Staff Duties, Form Tutor and After School Activities

The British School of Geneva is seeking a well-qualified candidate to fill the role of biology/science teacher for a maternity cover of 1 term (August-December 2023). The Science department comprises of 5 science specialist teachers and 1 laboratory technician. There are 2 Science laboratories, 1 specialist Science teaching room and a large, well equipped prep room.

The department offers students the opportunity to study all 3 sciences at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 and follows the Pearson Edexcel International specifications. Students in KS4 (Year 10 and 11) sit Pearson IGCSE examinations (4BI1) at the end of Year 11 and students in KS5 (Year 12 and 13) sit modular examinations in January and Summer of Years 12 and 13 (XBI11/YBI11). The successful candidate will be expected to prepare students fully for all external examinations. From September 2023, the department will also offer IGCSE Single Award Science (4SS0) in conjunction with our separate Science programme.

The Science department runs regular supra-curricular activities to broaden the learning of our students. Students in the upper school are encourage to support our primary school students by running Science clubs and taster lessons. The Science department fosters strong links across the Geneva area, including working closely with CERN and UNIGE on outreach programmes.

The key professional and personal qualities required for this position are :

Essential:
  • BSc. in Biology or a biological related subject
  • Ability to teach GCSE Biology (Key Stage 4)
  • The proven ability to contribute to and work effectively within a Subject department and broader staff community.
  • The proven ability to maintain accurate data, records and Curricular Schemes of Learning.
  • The proven ability to energise student learning and experience ensuring high level of student development and improvement.
  • A proven facility with using relevant Information technology and complying with in-house systems of recordkeeping.
  • A proven ability to provide additional contribution to student experience beyond the mainstream curriculum.
  • A 10 Year Personal Background Police Clearance record (to include International child protection certificate or equivalent).
  • 2 written references from Referees.
  • A current Work Permit to work in Switzerland or residency in Switzerland or as a Frontailer.
Desirable:
  • Ability to teach Biology/Chemistry/Physics at KS 3
  • Ability to teach ICT
