Job Description

The Communications Manager role plays a pivotal part in shaping and delivering MDPI's corporate narrative: communicating our mission, values, and achievements across internal and external audiences. They oversee time-sensitive and milestone campaigns, strengthen brand reputation, and ensure a consistent, high-impact communication strategy that reflects MDPI's leadership in open access publishing. The role leads cross-functional collaboration to elevate MDPI's brand through clear, engaging, and purposeful storytelling.

Tasks & Responsibilities



Strategic Communications



Develop and implement MDPI's corporate communication strategy across global audiences. Help define and uphold corporate brand guidelines to support a unified global brand. Partner with top management to communicate MDPI's priorities, positioning, and initiatives.

Brand Reputation



Act as a brand ambassador, ensuring a consistent and compelling corporate voice. Collaborate with the External Affairs team to align communications with public sentiment and strengthen brand positioning. Oversee corporate news, announcements, newsletters, and press collaborations.

External Communications Oversight



Lead corporate campaigns to reinforce MDPI's reputation as a trusted open access leader. Ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency across all communication materials

Internal Communications & Engagement



Guide internal communication strategies to enhance transparency, alignment, and employee engagement.

Team Leadership & Collaboration



Manage and mentor the corporate communications team, fostering creativity, accountability, and professional growth. Collaborate with other marketing teams to ensure cohesive storytelling and message integrity. Continuously improve communication processes, tools, and performance measurement.

Measurement & Insights

Requirements



Education & Experience



University degree in Communications, Marketing, or a related field (required). 10+ years of experience in corporate communications, including internal, external, and brand communication. 5+ years of proven leadership or managerial experience. Background in communications strategy driven by data and insights (desired). English: C1-C2 level (required). Additional languages are an advantage.

Technical Skills



Advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, Outlook). Intermediate experience with content planning and publishing tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Buffer). Basic knowledge of analytics tools (Google Analytics, social media insights). Familiarity with internal communication platforms (Teams, Viva Engage, CMS). Basic design and visual communication skills (Canva, Adobe Express, or similar).
