Job Description

Are you a passionate, entrepreneurially-minded analyst with strong analytical skills and deep interest in ESG (environmental, social, and governance) topics?

Your role

Based in Geneva, as part of a global team, your role as ESG Analyst will include the following main duties:

Governance (10%)
  • Conduct analyses to guide recommendations to Vitol senior leadership, e.g. on health, safety, environment
  • Contribute to the annual ESG report publication, and related analyses and documents
  • Identify and implement process improvements
Data collection, analysis, and reporting (60%)
  • Collect ESG data, liaising with ESG managers part of Vitol investment portfolio, IT and other departments
  • Ensure data stored in our KPI reporting platform is accurate and up to date, and contribute to shipping and wider greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint calculations
  • Analyse ESG KPIs and GHG data, e.g. calculations, benchmarking, result interpretations, and executive reporting
  • Suggest action plans, assist implementation, prepare training materials for internal & external stakeholders
  • Support ESG Manager in meeting relevant ESG reporting requirements
Human rights and environmental due diligence (20%)
  • Support to implement human rights due diligence obligations in Vitol value chains, e.g. with KYC process, screening counterparties on risks and ESG shortcomings (e.g. child labour risks, environmental practices)
  • Manage relationships with third parties for ESG impact assessments, e.g. in voluntary carbon projects
Ad hoc support on risk management and energy transition (10%)
  • Provide regulatory and analytic support to identify, assess, and manage ESG risks to Vitol and our assets
  • Work with our Energy transition manager on specific climate-related risks, e.g. water use, waste & recycling
  • Ad-hoc projects
Qualifications

What you need to bring
  • Master degree (or higher) from a top-ranked university with outstanding record of academic achievement in a relevant subject, e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, Sustainability, Finance
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in an analytical role, e.g., banking, consulting, audit
  • Analytical mindset, quantitative and Excel skills, with excellent attention to detail
  • Entrepreneurial drive, ability to work independently as well as in a team
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, able to find pragmatic solutions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to convey complex concepts in simple terms
  • An interest in ESG topics
  • Full proficiency communicating in English in a business context (verbally and in writing)
Additional qualifications that will help you stand out
  • Previous experience in commodities, trading and/or energy industries
  • Some knowledge of ESG reporting standards, ESG laws and regulations, GHG accounting methodologies
