EPAM is looking for an experienced Middleware & Infrastructure Engineer specializing in API Management to join our Zurich-based team. As a member of the API Management Infrastructure team, you will collaborate with a group of experts to design, implement, and maintain advanced infrastructure that powers applications for our clients. Responsibilities

Evaluate the technical drivers behind requested changes and assess them against the current environment Investigate the broader context of change requests, challenge assumptions, and propose practical solutions Collaborate with upstream and downstream teams to ensure alignment of technical requirements and successful integration Collect, document, and refine functional and non-functional requirements using appropriate tools and methodologies Partner with software and test engineers to assist with the implementation of user stories Proactively identify risks in projects and work with product owners and stakeholders to mitigate them Share knowledge within the team and contribute to process improvements and best practices Develop detailed technical specifications and user documentation for delivered solutions

Requirements

Extensive knowledge of API integration platforms such as Google Apigee, Oracle Service Bus, WSO2, Kong, or custom-built API gateways Proven experience in designing and implementing secure, scalable, and maintainable API solutions for global and multi-region use cases Strong understanding of API protocols including REST, SOAP, GraphQL, and messaging systems In-depth knowledge of API security concepts such as OAuth2, OIDC, mTLS, and other authentication and authorization mechanisms Familiarity with load balancing strategies and traffic routing across distributed services Understanding of multi-tier application architectures and how components interact with one another Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to onboard client applications and provide consulting on API-first integration approaches Skilled in debugging and troubleshooting issues in distributed systems Proficiency in working with OpenAPI specifications

Nice to have

Experience in Java development Hands-on knowledge of Linux system administration, including user management, troubleshooting, log analysis, and performance monitoring for memory and CPU Familiarity with Azure core services, including NSG, EntraID, and Azure Load Balancer Understanding of AKS (Azure Kubernetes Service)
